Launch of the African School of Economics (ASE)

The launch of the African School of Economics and Management (ASE) will take place in the city of Akassato in Abomey-Calavi (Benin) on Thursday, July 22, 2010. During the opening ceremony, Professor Léonard Wantchékon, founding director of IREEP, will present the ASE project in the presence of distinguished guests and key stakeholders.

ASE intends on becoming:

  • A Masters-level training institution of excellence in economics and management;
  • A research center dedicated to empirical evaluation of development projects and policies, using robust techniques and statistical tools. The center intervenes in sectors such as governance, education, health, democracy, participatory management, etc. It will be a continuation of IREEP, created in 2004; and
  • A pan African university integrated in the international network of centers of excellence in America, Asia and Europe.

Admission to the school will be open, on a competitive basis, to all African students and professionals wishing to obtain a higher degree comparable to the quality of training offered in renowned American and European universities in the areas of:

  • Business administration
  • Mathematics, economics and statistics
  • International and public affairs
  • Development studies

ASE aims to train the next generation of the African intellectual elite by offering her analytical tools and techniques as well as leadership and professional skills through relevant work experience.

Moreover, ASE’s research center will become a reference point in terms of impact evaluation studies of development policies and projects. The school will publish two academic journals and will promote a large debate on development issues through seminars based on rational arguments and involving key stakeholders.

ASE seeks to boost Africa’s image by promoting the principles of excellence and rigor in training and research.

An attractive architectural design will offer optimal and pleasant working conditions and will represent a jewel, a testimony of Africa’s history and its beautiful sceneries.

The African School of Economics is an ambitious project that requires support from all Africans and friends of Africa. Please join us in building an important heritage for the African continent.
