Through this study, IERPE investigates the efficacy of increased monitoring and transparency in reducing corruption at the local level. Using a randomized controlled trial IERPE evaluates how monitoring of bureaucratic actors reduces political corruption in Benin. The intervention consists of quarterly public deliberative forums of local bureaucrats and NGOs representatives who debate the state of local governance. The study is based on a sample of 40 municipalities in Benin, which will be tracked over a year.
